Rewrite TV Anime Announced

rewrite1It’s been announced today that the VN Rewrite , from Key/Visual Arts of Clannad/Angel Beats! fame, will be getting an anime adaptation. The studio is 8-bit, which recently did the anime for the Grisaia no Kajitsu and Grisaia no Rakuen visual novels.

The only thing that surprises me about this is how long it took to happen.

Ryukishi07 wrote one of the game’s routes, working with Romeo Tanaka and Yuuto Tonakawa. He’ll be reuniting with the same two authors for his upcoming doujin work TRianThology.

Rewrite’s already on my “VNs to Play” list, though it’s 50+ hour playtime and reputation for a sloggy common route have kept it there for a while. If the anime succeeds as an adaptation (don’t want to relive my Umineko trauma!), I might end up committing sacrilege and watching it instead.

Anime Expo 2015 Panel: “The World of Ryukishi07”

Lots of interesting stuff came up on Ryukishi’s AX Panel on Sunday, including the next When They Cry game! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see him again at the con myself like at ACen. But thanks to Isae (who writes an awesome Higurashi tumblr and blog) and an upstanding Anon of 4chan, I’ve been able to record these nuggets of knowledge for posterity.

Sentai Licenses Higurashi Anime, Including Rei OVA

Ryukishi07’s panel at AnimeExpo isn’t until Sunday, but some 07th Expansion news has popped up earlier than expected. The US anime company Sentai Filmworks just announced today that they’ll be re-releasing the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni anime.

HigurashiThe first season’s been released before by both Geneon USA (R.I.P.) and Funimation. However, the season season (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai) had yet to get an official US release (though as mentioned in the comments, it has been released in Australia by Siren Visual). I assume Sentai will be releasing Kai, since they also announced the OVA Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei which follows it. That’s a nice addition; two of Rei’s arcs are just random fanservice, but Saikoroshi-Hen (Dice Killing Chapter) adds a lot to the series.
