Lots of interesting stuff came up on Ryukishi’s AX Panel on Sunday, including the next When They Cry game! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see him again at the con myself like at ACen. But thanks to Isae (who writes an awesome Higurashi tumblr and blog) and an upstanding Anon of 4chan, I’ve been able to record these nuggets of knowledge for posterity.
After much searching online, I’ve finally found a video recording of Ryukishi07’s third panel at ACen! It was posted by a user on the Fuwanovel forums. Although there’s no recording for the other two panels, this one probably went over the most interesting information. So if you’re ready for some Ryukishi07 goodness, sit back and enjoy.
Cool little note: The guy asking a question at 2:59 in the 2nd video is me! Ryukishi07 was really cool about it. Although I’m just now realizing the interpreter probably misheard “death” when I send “depth”…ah well, it makes sense both ways.
If you still want a chance to see Ryukishi07 in person, he’ll be a guest at AnimeExpo this July.
When I last discussed Ryukishi07’s hinted “Tiger Festival” project, it seemed possible that he might be writing for a new Tales Of game. In the days since, Bandai Namco announced the upcoming game Tales of Berseria.
However, another theory might be more likely (and much more obvious). When I first started free-associating, the “Tiger” part made me think of the Japanese doujin retailer “Tora no Ana.” The “Festival” part made me think of some doujin event, like Reitaisai or Wonder Festival. “Could be something there,” I thought, “but nothing conclusive.” Until now, upon learning that Tora no Ana’s holding a special event on June 21st to celebrate their 20th anniversary. The event’s name? Tiger Festival.
Here’s more fascinating stuff from the flurry of information this weekend, with such topics as:
- Why he choose witches as a theme for Umineko.
- Whether he’s familiar with the Rosatrice theory.
- Whether Yasu is a transgendered character.
- The relation between the worlds and characters of Higurashi and Umineko (the translator doesn’t mention it, but it looks he is explicitly influenced by Osamu Tezuka’s Star System).
There’s also an article to go along with it, with some comments and more description of the first two panels. Good stuff!
And finally, here’s the first panel from Friday. In this one, Ryukishi07 went over the history of 07th Expansion’s creation, as well as all the hard work and crazy stories that went into the creation of Higurashi. Continue reading
At the 2nd Panel on Saturday, Ryukishi07 detailed his writing process for Higurashi and Umineko. Continue reading
ACen 2015 has now come to a close, and it was a great time. At times it felt like we were having a little mini-07th Expansion festival!
Ryukishi07 held 3 panels, one one each day of the convention. I’ll be posting write-ups of each of the panels in reverse order. I wanted to start with the 3rd panel from today, since it had some of the most tantalizing new info.
Since Ryukishi07 couldn’t take as many audience questions as he’d hoped to in the previous panels, he started this one with a Q&A. He got permission to run the panel long to field even more question’s before revealing more information about his upcoming work TRianThology and another mysterious new unannounced project.
